UnitedHealthcare insurance

I take UnitedHealthcare and bill it myself.

I send UnitedHealthcare claims directly. Headway is not involved.

Online therapy for adults physically located in New York State.

Billing

What happens with the bill

I send the claim to UnitedHealthcare. What you owe depends on your plan. It could be a copay, a percentage of the session cost, or more until you meet your deductible.

UnitedHealthcare has different networks and employer plans, so we need to check the exact plan on your card.

Before the first session

Before we schedule, we check three things.

  1. The exact plan

The company name alone is not enough. We need the full plan information.

  2. Who gets the claim

I send it directly to the insurer.

  3. What you might owe

We check for a copay, coinsurance, or a deductible you still need to meet.

What I work with

The plan tells us how to bill. It doesn't tell us what you need help with.

I work with adults dealing with anxiety, ADHD, burnout, people-pleasing, perfectionism, childhood trauma, and life transitions. You can read the services overview, or start with the pages on anxiety and overthinking and adult ADHD.

Out-of-network benefits

Out of network doesn't always mean you have no coverage.

Your plan may pay you back for part of an out-of-network session. That is different from your out-of-pocket cost. The insurer decides what counts, whether you have to meet a deductible first, and how much it will pay back.

Call the number on your card and ask: Do I have out-of-network benefits for therapy? Is there a separate deductible? How much of it have I met? How do you calculate what you pay back? Is there a deadline, referral, or approval I need?

Depending on the plan, I can send the claim for you and/or give you a superbill to submit. Talk to me directly if you want help making sense of what the insurer told you and deciding how to handle it. The insurer still makes the final decision.

Your plan may still pay you back for part of the session. I can help you make sense of what the insurer tells you. Depending on the plan, I can send the claim for you and/or give you a superbill to submit. The insurer makes the final decision about what it will cover.

Still not sure what any of this means? Ask me.

We can talk through the plan, what still needs to be checked, and whether insurance or private pay makes more sense. Private pay is $160 for a 50-minute session.
