Insurance

Here's how insurance works with me.

I bill Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Oxford, Optum, and Oscar myself. I use Headway for Aetna and some Blue Cross Blue Shield plans. We still need to check the exact plan on your card and what it says you will owe.

Through Headway

I use Headway for these plans.

I use Headway for Aetna and the Blue Cross Blue Shield plans listed here. Your sessions are still with me. Headway handles the insurance part.

Blue Cross Blue Shield is not one plan. My Headway profile currently lists Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Highmark BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York, Highmark BlueShield of Northeastern New York, Horizon Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Jersey, and Independence Blue Cross Pennsylvania - Virtual National Network. Empire is not currently listed.

What gets verified

The name on the card isn't enough.

Before the first session, we check the full plan, whether I am in network, who gets the claim, and what you may owe.

Any cost you see before the claim is processed is still an estimate. The insurer makes the final decision.

Sessions are 50 minutes by telehealth. You must be physically located in New York State at the time of the session. Private pay is $160 per session.

Out-of-network benefits

Your plan may still pay part of the cost.

Call the number on your card and ask whether you have out-of-network benefits for therapy. Ask about the deductible, how much of it you have met, how they calculate what they pay back, and whether there is a deadline, referral, or approval you need.

Depending on the plan, I can send the claim for you and/or give you a superbill to submit. Talk to me directly if you want help making sense of what the insurer told you and deciding how to handle it.

What the insurer pays back and what you pay yourself are not the same thing. The insurer makes the final decision about what it will cover.

Common questions

Which insurance plans does Angela DeGiaimo accept?

I bill Cigna, Optum, UnitedHealthcare, Oxford, and Oscar directly. I use Headway for Aetna and the BCBS plans listed on this page. We still need to check your exact plan.

Does having one of these insurers guarantee coverage?

No. Plans from the same insurance company can work differently. We still need to check whether I am in network and what your plan says you will owe.

Can I use insurance for telehealth therapy from outside New York?

No. You need to be physically located in New York State during the session, even if your insurance comes from somewhere else.

What if my plan is out of network?

Your plan may still pay you back for part of the session. I can help you make sense of what the insurer tells you. Depending on the plan, I can send the claim for you and/or give you a superbill to submit. The insurer makes the final decision about what it will cover.

If this is still confusing, ask me.

We can talk through the plan, what still needs to be checked, and whether insurance or private pay makes more sense.
